The Houston Energy dropped the opening game of the season to the Oklahoma City Lady Force 16-14 at Wolverine Stadium on Saturday, April 27. “The Force” scored a late 4th quarter touchdown on 4th and 7 and took the lead on the ensuing 2-point conversion.
The Energy opened the scoring in the second quarter when Brook Wilson scampered into the end-zone from 10 yards out to cap an 8 play 82-yard drive. Carol Maresh ran in the 2-point conversion to give Houston an 8-0 lead that the team would take into halftime.
In the third quarter, Maresh connected with Larreisha “ReRe” McClain for a 59-yard touchdown pass. The 2-point attempt was no good, giving Houston a 14-0 lead.
Oklahoma City answered with consecutive rushing touchdowns to take a 16-14 lead. Houston’s final drive came up just short, and Oklahoma City would take a knee with 30 seconds left on their own 20-yard-line.
The Energy defense played hard forcing 2 fumbles and an interception in front of a packed and energetic home crowd.
Houston will take on the Austin Outlaws at home on May 4th as they look to bounce back from the season-opening loss.
