The Houston Energy took down the Zydeco Spice as the offense erupted in a 55-6 victory at Knight Stadium in Lafayette, Louisiana on Saturday, May 11. Led by rising rookie quarterback Carol Maresh, Houston dominated from the opening whistle in their first road test of the season.
Maresh threw for 4 touchdowns and over 250 yards in the win, including scores of 82-yards and 69-yards to second year wideout Amirra “Rocket” Parker. Energy newcomer Ashley Robinson notched the other 2 receiving touchdowns.
On the ground, Suzie Garrett carried the rock for 90 yards and 2 touchdowns and Robinson added a 3rd rushing touchdown.
Even the defense got in on the scoring bonanza when Ariele Adams continued her spectacular season with a pick-six in the third quarter. The defense had back-to-back games with 4 takeaways as Jessica Rivas and Shannon “Hammerhead” Foreman recovered fumbles and Kelsey West added a second interception.
The highlight of the night was when offensive lineman Datiana Sikahema barreled her way across the goal line for a two-point conversion late in the 4th quarter.
The Energy seek to increase their win streak to 3 as Dallas Elite Mustangs roll into Wolverine Stadium on Saturday, May 18 for Houston’s final home game of the regular season.
